Academics

A student looks up as he works on a handwriting exercise.

At Murphy, we provide a rigorous academic program that prepares our students for future success with a focus on increasing the number of students performing at or above grade level in reading and math.

To achieve this goal, we utilize data to drive instruction and regularly review our academic support systems. We work to continually refine our teaching practices, ensuring that each student receives the highest quality education.

  • Our literacy instruction is based on the Wit and Wisdom and Fundations ELA curricula, which were introduced in the 2023-2024 school year. Both engage our students in reading, writing, and critical thinking.
  • Math instruction is rooted in the Big Ideas curriculum, which encourages students to explore mathematical concepts deeply and develop problem-solving skills.
  • Our science instruction is enriched by the fun and interactive Generation Genius curriculum, which brings science to life through engaging videos and hands-on activities.
  • We integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) into our daily routines using the Second Step SEL curriculum and Circle Forward resources. These programs equip students with the skills to manage emotions, build healthy relationships, and make responsible decisions, laying the groundwork for lifelong success.
  • Murphy is proud to be a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) school, where we emphasize positive behavior and a supportive learning environment. Our PBIS framework helps us cultivate a school culture that encourages respect, responsibility, and safety, reinforcing positive behaviors through recognition and rewards
